Can Gemini make phone calls for my business?
Gemini has no phone line of its own. But if you use Gemini CLI or a Gemini-based agent that supports remote MCP, it can operate your FoxEra Calls account to build campaigns, get your approval and report the results.
What Gemini can and cannot do with phone calls
Gemini is a language model. It can draft a calling script, suggest who to call and help you write a follow-up email, but it cannot dial a phone number, record a conversation or log a call outcome. It has no telephony.
FoxEra Calls fills that gap. It provides the phone line, the AI calling agents (Cass, Alex, Andrea) and the compliance layer. When you connect Gemini CLI to FoxEra through its remote MCP server, Gemini gains the ability to manage your calling account: adding leads, previewing campaigns, scheduling calls after your approval and reading the results.
How to connect Gemini CLI to FoxEra Calls
- Open your Gemini CLI MCP settings and add a remote server with the URL https://app.foxera.co.uk/mcp.
- When Gemini CLI calls the server for the first time, an OAuth consent screen opens in your browser. Sign in with your FoxEra Calls account (or create one for free) and press Allow.
- Gemini CLI now sees the FoxEra tools. Ask it to check your account status to confirm the link is working.
No packages, no local server, no API key to paste. The MCP connection uses standard Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1, the same protocol other assistants use.
What Gemini can do once connected
Through the MCP connection, Gemini CLI can call every tool that the FoxEra Calls dashboard exposes:
- Add leads to a folder (names, phone numbers, companies)
- Choose the AI calling agent and review the pitch it will use
- Preview a campaign: exact headcount, estimated time and cost, shown to you before anything happens
- Approve and schedule the campaign for a date and time you choose
- Stop or cancel a running campaign
- Read call outcomes, full transcripts and listen to recordings
- Check your credit balance and pull a cost report
See the developer guide for the full tool list.
Your approval is required before anyone is phoned
Gemini cannot start calling people without your explicit say-so. The FoxEra server enforces a two-step gate on every campaign: first, the assistant confirms the exact number of people who will be called; second, it asks for your approval. Only after your yes does the campaign go live.
This safety check runs on the FoxEra server, not inside Gemini. Your token is scoped to your own workspace, every action is logged, and you can revoke access any time by changing your password. The same gate applies to every connected assistant, whether it is Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude or a custom agent.
Pricing: the connection is free, calls are pay-as-you-go
There is no charge to connect Gemini CLI to FoxEra Calls. You pay only when a call connects, from 12p per connected minute, with no subscription and no monthly minimum. Every new account gets £7 of free calling credit to try it.
Use the cost calculator to estimate what a campaign will cost before you run it, or read the cost-per-minute breakdown for the detail.
Works with any Gemini-based agent, not only the CLI
If you run Gemini inside your own agent framework rather than Gemini CLI, the same MCP server URL works, provided the framework supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP. Alternatively, create a bearer API key (fxk_...) in your FoxEra dashboard and call the REST API directly. Both paths share the same workspace, leads and approval gate.
You can also connect the same account from ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any other assistant at the same time. Read more about FoxEra Calls or see what your first campaign should aim for.
Frequently asked questions
Can Gemini phone someone directly without FoxEra?
No. Gemini is a language model with no telephony. It can draft scripts and plan campaigns, but it needs an external service like FoxEra Calls to make and record actual phone calls.
Does Gemini need a special plugin to connect?
No. Gemini CLI connects to FoxEra through a standard remote MCP server URL. There is nothing to install locally.
Can Gemini start calls without my approval?
No. The FoxEra server requires headcount confirmation and your explicit yes before any campaign launches. This is enforced server-side, not by the model.
What does it cost?
The MCP connection is free. Calls cost from 12p per connected minute with no subscription. New accounts get £7 of free calling credit.
Can I use the same account from Gemini and another assistant?
Yes. Every assistant connects through the same MCP server URL with its own OAuth session, all acting inside the same workspace with the same approval gate.
