Can ChatGPT make phone calls? Not alone, but it can run them.
ChatGPT does not have a phone line. What it can do is connect to a calling service, build a campaign, get your approval and then report back with transcripts and recordings.
ChatGPT has no phone line of its own
ChatGPT is a text and voice assistant. It can draft emails, answer questions and hold a conversation in your browser or app, but it has no way to dial a phone number, connect to a phone network or speak to someone on a live call. If you ask it to phone a lead, it will tell you it cannot.
That changes when you give it a connector to a service that can. The connector gives ChatGPT a set of tools it did not have before, and one of those tools is the ability to instruct a calling service to phone real people on your behalf.
How ChatGPT connects to a phone system
FoxEra Calls provides a custom connector that ChatGPT can use. You add it in ChatGPT's settings, sign in with your FoxEra Calls account and press Allow. From that point, ChatGPT can see your account, add leads, choose a voice agent, write a pitch and build a calling campaign.
The connection uses the same standard (remote MCP with OAuth) that other AI tools support, so you are not locked into ChatGPT. Claude, Cursor and other assistants connect the same way. The full setup guide is on our developers page.
What happens end to end
- You tell ChatGPT what you want, for example: add these 20 leads and have Cass call them tomorrow at 10.
- ChatGPT uses the connector to add the leads to your FoxEra Calls account and build a campaign.
- It shows you a preview: exactly how many people will be called, the estimated time and the cost.
- You approve. Only then does FoxEra's voice agent start dialling.
- After the calls, ChatGPT pulls the results: who answered, who was interested, transcripts and recordings.
You stay in control throughout. If you do not approve, nobody is phoned.
The approval step is not optional
FoxEra's safety rule applies to every assistant, including ChatGPT. Before any call is made, two things must happen: the confirmed number of people must be shown to you, and you must give a separate approval. ChatGPT is instructed to do this every time, so it will always ask before dialling.
Your API key works only inside your own workspace. Every action is logged and auditable. You can revoke access at any time, and changing your password disconnects ChatGPT instantly.
What you hear back after the calls
Once the campaign finishes, you can ask ChatGPT to show you the outcomes. It reads the results from FoxEra Calls and reports who answered, who expressed interest, who asked to be called back and who declined. You get the full transcript of each conversation and a link to the recording.

Can ChatGPT actually dial a phone number?

Is there anything to install?
No. You add a custom connector in ChatGPT, paste the FoxEra address, sign in and press Allow. It takes about two minutes.
Will ChatGPT call people without asking me first?
No. FoxEra requires the exact headcount to be confirmed and a separate approval from you before any call is made. ChatGPT is told to show you the number and wait for your yes.
